Accutane Cause Hair Loss
As with most newer drugs out today, their are consequences to curing your acne with Accutane. Some users of Accutane have
complained of hair loss while on Accutane. Some of the users of accutane tell each other to use Minoxidil or Finasteride
but the problem with those drugs is that once you stop taking them, the hair loss will return. The degree of baldness and
hair loss in response to Accutane use is also widely varied. Some people have just thinning of their hair, while others
have gone nearly bald. Of course, there are people with differing amounts of hair loss inbetween.
Who Does Accutane Work For?
Accutane is used to treat a type of severe acne (nodular acne) that has not been helped by other treatments,
including antibiotics. However, Accutane can cause serious side effects. Before starting Accutane, discuss with your
prescriber how bad your acne is, the possible benefits of Accutane, and its possible side effects, to decide if Accutane
is right for you. Your prescriber will ask you to read and sign a form or forms indicating you understand some of the
serious risks of Accutane.
Other Problems with Accutane
Unfortunately acne often flares up after starting Accutane. Aggravation
of acne can be minimized by taking Accutane at a lower dose and increasing it a month or two later. The most common side-effect
of Accutane is dryness. The lips, nasal membranes, eyes, and skin become very dry. This side-effect can be managed with lubricants,
such as petrolatum (Vaseline). Nosebleeds occur when the nasal lining dries out. For prevention, you may coat nasal surfaces
with petrolatum or Aquaphor. The backs of the hands frequently develop a minor rash that can be controlled with hydrocortisone
ointment. Your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight so sunblock is necessary. Many patients experience minor eye irritation,
contact lens intolerance, and occasional pink eye infections that may require medical attention. In a few cases, dry eyes have
been a real problem. Rarely, decreased visual acuity, that is, a need for glasses, and/or decreased night vision may occur.
And as said earlier, your scalp hair may thin and their may be hair loss while on Accutane.
