Diabetes and Hair Loss
Diabetes may result in hair loss for many difference reasons. People with diabetes are very susceptible to skin
problems, which often lead to hair loss. The cause of diabetes
continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise
appear to play roles. Because of poor blood circulation, diabetics also heal more slowly and scar more often
from injuries, cuts and scrapes.
Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin, a hormone that is necessary to convert sugar, starches, and other food into energy.
There are two types of diabetes. With type 1 diabetes people don't make any insulin—a hormone that allows glucose (sugar) to enter the cells of your body to produce energy-and people with type 2 don't make enough insulin or are unable to utilize it properly (insulin resistance). A third of people with type 2 diabetes don't know they have it, and oftentimes people don't learn they have diabetes until they have eye problems, kidney damage, gum or nerve damage.
